‘A Glimpse of Old England’

The tour can be adapted to your particular interests, but typically includes sights such as the City Walls, the Rows (Chester's unique Medieval shopping arcade), the Roman amphitheatre, the iconic Eastgate Clock, the Cross (the city's historic central crossroads), the Cathedral and the River Dee.

‘The Ancient Wall’
Private walking tour around the most complete set of city walls in England.
The tour tells the story of how Chester's city walls were built and then rebuilt to protect its inhabitants from attack by the ancient Britons, then the Vikings and the Welsh before coming under a sustained siege and bombardment during the English Civil War. It's also the story of how Chester chose in the 18th Century to transform its walls into a promenade and how the walls were only eventually breached by the requirements of 'progress'.

Industrial Chester
Private walking tour of the industrial history of Chester from Roman times, through the Industrial Revolution and into the 20th Century.
The tour tells the story of how Chester developed its manufacturing activity based on its port and then sought to compete with the major northern industrial cities of the North West of England during the Industrial Revoluation of the 18th and 19th Centuries. The tour starts at the site of the Roman port (Chester Racecourse) and then discovers the traces of the Port of Chester before following the route of the Chester Canal past the city walls to the city’s former industrial suburb of Boughton.
